The Broward County Medical Association unites over 1,200 allopathic and osteopathic physicians, of all specialties, as well as Physician Assistants, medical students and residents, and Alliance members toward the fulfillment of a common goal:

To secure access to health care of the highest quality for the residents of Broward County

To maintain the integrity of medical practice and care delivery for the citizens of Broward

To advocate in legislative, regulatory, and economic forums for the interests of the patients of Broward County in securing and maintaining access to medical care of high quality from the physicians of their choice, and for the interests of practicing physicians in caring for their patients.

Dr. Ramsey Pevsner, President BCMA

Dr Pevsner obtained her DO degree from Nova Southeastern University and her residency training was at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami. Prior to becoming a psychiatrist, she had a career as a psychologist in West Palm Beach and Stuart, FL, but began her journey to becoming a physician and psychologist as a psychiatric nurse at Rush Presbyterian St Lukes hospital in Chicago, IL. She has served on several boards in the past before joining the BCMA board. She served on Palm Beach County Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, Temple Beth El and was past president of the Martin County ARC. Other past accomplishments have been president and secretary of the Palm Beach county psychological society and co-chair of the Women’s Issue section of the state Florida Psychological Association. She has published and done research in the areas of parent child training, biofeedback for pain tolerance, application of behavior principles in the work setting, and most recently a paper on completers vs non-completers of PTSD treatment in a poster presentation at the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting. She has worked in substance abuse at The Watershed treatment Center, but is currently in private practice and also works part time at the Veterans Administration in the Compensation and Pension devision.

Dr. Pevsner's Presidential Message to the Families of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Shooting Victims

My sympathies go out to the families of the victims of the recent school shooting. I feel this points up the need for increased access to mental health services to identify individuals with severe mental illness and provide the needed care. We also need better security for our schools to protect our most precious commodity, our children.

In summary, we need more funding for mental health and education. In some schools there is only one counselor for 3000 children. School psychologists who are trained in crisis prevention and intervention are often assigned to three or four schools so that they can only visit each school once a week. With this ratio of counselor to students, it is very difficult to identify or provide counseling to at risk students. I am advocating prevention of the problem as the solution, mental health treatment for at risk children.
